Whether you choose to do it or not.

Writer's picture: Alexis RuschAlexis Rusch

Why wouldn’t a caterpillar go into the chrysalis stage? It is quiet, it is alone.

Why wouldn’t the salmon swim upstream? It requires endurance, there are grizzlies/dams.

Why wouldn’t a seed root down? There is no moving after that, it is dark.

Why wouldn’t a bird leave the nest? It may never see its mother again.

Why wouldn’t a human accept that we are a part of this? It means change. It means challenge. It means acceptance.

No part of Biology gets a free pass from these truths. In the video you will see that the butterfly must pump fluid from its abdomen into its wings in order to inflate them. We may see the crippled wings of this organism as sad. We may want to reach for it and “help.” By helping this butterfly we are robbing it of its opportunity for it to fly. Read that again.

We are connected to this truth. At some point, we will all face it… because it is a part of our Biology. Like everything else. Humans are not immortal and get some sort of pass because on top of having thumbs we have also acquired a rational brain called the neocortex. No.

So do you choose to give up the facade and go alone for the time only you know you need? Perhaps you finally take your body to the fitness levels of the Salmon and begin to swim upstream? Ready to root? Is it time to accept your adulthood and mentally, or physically leave the nest? These are all truly HARD.

Growth. We cannot outrun life. Life is happening whether you choose to do it or not. The sooner you accept the facts, perhaps the sooner it will be that you finally begin to fly.
